It wasn’t business as usual for non compliant pharmacies in Kisumu today as close to 90 people were arrested for allegedly operating illegal pharmacies. This was a crackdown by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board officials in Kisumu and part of Western Kenya.
“Those we arrested are those that failed to produce licences and registration certificates. They will be charged” said North Rift Region PPB head Kibet Chebeo. He added that anybody found operating without required documents and selling fake drugs will be arrested and their licences withdrawn.
The region boss said that the raids would extend to other regions to ensure compliance and those operating pharmacies should ensure all the drugs they sell are certified by the board.
He urged distributors and wholesalers to only supply drugs to registered pharmacies.
