Kisumu Girls High School is the top creme of Nyanza schools that everyone would wish their daughters or sisters attend. Currently, a group of 5 girls from the institution have set technological record by standing a chance to represent their school and Kenya in a Global Technovation on August 7 in San Francisco.
This is as a result of an Android app they developed that comes handy in fighting Female Genital Mutilation. The app has features that allow users to connect with FGM victims for moral support. Victims and those at risk can also contact a health center for help via a feature on the app. In addition, it has an M-Pesa option well-wishers who might wish to support the victims.
The app was developed by Purity Achieng and Synthia Otieno, two form four students together with their colleagues Macrine Atieno, Ivy Akinyi, and Stacy Owino. The 5 will together stand a chance of bagging USD 15,000 [approximately KES 1.5M] if they come top in the Aug 7 Global Technovation is a programme that equips girls with programming and coding skills.
