Two journalists were on Monday arrested and forced to spend a night in the cold at the Bondo police station cells.
Geoffrey Oguma, a reporter at Kisumu based Radio Nam Lolwe and Brian Ondeng, a photo journalist at Kenya News Agency were arrested while covering a dramatic arrest of a shylock in Bondo town on Monday.
According to reports, Brian Ondeng was taking photos while his counterpart Oguma was recording the incident before facing arrest.
It’s confirmed that not only were they assaulted brutally but their working equipment were also confiscated by the police including wallets, cell phones, recorders, notebooks,media cards amongst other personal belongings.
KISUMUINSYDER.CO.KE has learnt that none of the confiscated items were recorded in the occurrence book [OB].
According to the police, the two were arrested for various offences. The officers allege that the journalists were obstructing them from discharging their duties.
The two have since been released on a KES 10,000 cash bail each after pleading not guilty to the charge.
