President Uhuru Kenyatta will be visiting Kisumu for the first time since his historic handshake with former PM Raila Odinga.
The President’s December 13th visit will be an avenue for a number of project launches which include commissioning the Universal Healthcare Coverage, part of his Big Four Agenda.
The Universal Healthcare Coverage is aimed at establishing the capacity of NHIF and improve infrastructure before the program is rolled out countrywide.
He will also launch the construction of the Muhoroni-Mamboleo C674 road which is a key road to Kisumu, Nandi and neighboring counties.
The leaders from the lakeside county also expect that most stalled projects such as KICOMI, sugar and fishing industries, and maritime transport will be given priority by the president.
One of the area MPs has hinted that they’ll collectively request the president to see an urgent need to launch construction of the Mamboleo-Londiani, Awasi-Katito and Singida bridge-Ahero roads.
Adding that Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital should be upgraded to the level of Kenyatta National Hospital and Moi Referral Hospital.
Kisumu is also set to benefit from the 254km standard gauge railway from Naivasha, the proposed phase passing through Narok, Bomet and Kericho.
