Most youth in Kisumu have felt disappointed with Kisumu Governor’s move of banning car washing business along the shores of Lake Victoria and other water bodies in the county.
During the 55th Jamhuri Day celebrations, Prof. Anyang Nyong’o issued an executive order banning washing of vehicles along the shores of the lake.
He pointed out the move being a first step towards fighting the recurring water hyacinth, a water weed currently chocking the lake.
The exercise, according to a number of youth has been lucrative and a source of their livelihood until the ban was announced.
According to the Governor, it’s as a result of the car washing activities along the lake shores that sustains the hyacinth which thrives on the pollution and wastes from the exercise.
He warned of heavy penalties to be imposed on those found going against the order which takes effect immediately.
