Conjestina Achieng, a former World Boxing Association middleweight champion is responding well to treatment at the Eden House Group Rehabilitation Center in Diani where she is said to be plotting her comeback.

According to sources close to her, it will not take the boxer long before she resumes her ring activity which is thought to be around March 2019.

In March, she hopes to be a curtain raiser for her friend and fellow boxer Fatuma Zarika’s fight against Zambia’s Catherine Phiri on the 23rd of March, 2019.

After being flown from her rural home in Siaya County by the Nairobi Governor for treatment and rehabilitation in Nairobi, Achieng’ has been responding positively and is now set to make a great comeback.

She has been training along the the sandy beaches in Diani for the past two weeks where she made her first public appearance.

“She gets a chance to jog and exercise at the beach, she goes to a gym and does her training we are very happy with her recovery process,” said Prescott Mulwa, a  Counsellor at Eden House Rehabilitation.

However, according to the counselor – patient confidentiality, the rehabilitation center cannot divulge what Conjestina is being treated for.

The boxer felt she needed secondary treatment at a place she would be comfortable to train, away from exposure, Diani decision was reached, where she was transferred to from Kabete in Nairobi.

Her program is flexible and allows her to receive treatment, attend counseling sessions and train.

“Ningependa kuambia wakenya malkia ya masumbwi anarudi tena.. boxing is my career, hakuna siku ntasema nitawaachia siwezi acha katikati,” said Conjestina Achieng.

Loosely translated: “I’d like to tell Kenyans that the queen of boxing is going to make a comeback… Boxing is my career and I will never abandon this course.”

Despite the boxer having high appetite for the ring, it’s only her doctors who will be able to determine the appropriate time for her favorite sport.
