Kisumu will host an international conference between March 19th and 21st, a conference aimed at implementing the adequate and affordable housing plan, which is apparently one of the agenda four as described in Jubilee government manifesto.

The Grass Root Trust Coordinator Lawrence Apiyo reiterated that there’s urgent need to uplift the face of informal settlements within Kisumu, adding that many have moved to urban centers but due to low income end up in informal settlements.

He noted that the program will ensure everybody enjoys quality life, adding that the program will make cities and human settlements inclusive , safe, resilient and sustainable.

The conference will bring together key players including leaders, policy makers and experts across the nations and also ensure organizations dealing with housing and urban development in Kisumu and other cities in Kenya improve engagement with national and county housing on policies focusing on lowest income groups ,which shall there contribute to the progressive realization of the right to adequate housing.

Other objectives include, putting Kisumu city ahead of other African cities and towns and a leader in terms of meeting the national standards on adequate and affordable housing. Another aim is to establish a stakeholder platform that improves issues to do with housing at the county level and national too.

A number of partners including Transparency international, Kenya Female Advisory Organization, Community Empowerment and Media Initiative, Transform Empowerment for Action (TEAM), KINGA, COPA-K, DANIDA CARE, and CEA-Media Africa are some of the organizations that will grace the Kisumu International Conference in Match this year.
