Kisumu’s ‘JONAROBI’ film has hit a temporary snag in its screening journey after Kenya Film Classification Board’s CEO Ezekiel Mutua highlighted the fact that it was filmed without a licence from the board in line with the Films and Stage Plays Act Cap 222.

Mutua through a series of tweets seen by KISUMUINSYDER.CO.KE directed producers of the film to settle the dues by Monday 16th September  or face legal action.

According to the CEO, the Films and Stage Plays Act Cap 222 prohibits making of films in Kenya without a filming licence from the board.

‘JONAROBI’, an entertaining  sarcastic film revolving around the lives of Nairobians while in the village was written, produced and directed by Robin Odongo.

It first premiered in Kisumu at the Vic Hotel on 3rd August.

The second screening was at the Kisumu Hotel Hotel on 7th September 2019, an event that marked the countrywide staging of the film.

According to the producer, the film was to be watched in Nairobi for the first time on Saturday, September 14th at the Anga Diambond Cinema, Parklands, an activity that has since been suspended.

In a social media post, Robin has apologized to the KFCB for violating the set laws governing film production and asked well-wishers to assist him clear the film with the KFCB.

“I first want to admit that due to unavoidable circumstance i truly violated the law by shooting the film without paying the prerequisite charges. I solely take the blame an i want to publicly own the mistake” he wrote

Robin who’s a renowned film-maker in Kisumu admitted that it’s due to inadequate finances that led him and his team to go ahead and shoot the movie without paying the required fee to the KFCB.

He has asked the public to buy off the advance tickets which go for KES 500 to enable him sort the KES 45,000 required at KFCB and get a green light to screen the movie on Saturday, September 21st in Nairobi.
